In a collaborative spirit, the Black Student Union (BSU) sponsors a program to assist the University in its expressed goal of increasing the enrollment of African American students. This year the annual Black Student Welcome Reception will be a joint gala co-sponsored by the BSU, the Office of Admissions and Outreach and the Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA). The scholarship application is available at the bottom of this page.
This Scholarship Awards and Welcome Dinner is designed to accomplish four basic objectives, which are to:
- Welcome and acknowledge newly admitted African American students and their families to our campus;
- Serve as a resource for incoming students by helping them connect with current BSU students, faculty and staff;
- Create an awareness of the university’s student support programs and services which have the potential to enhance the transition from high school and community college to Cal Poly Pomona; and
- Raise $5,000 in scholarship funds to assist qualified African American students with their collegiate expenses.
