Scholarships Opportunities

The Cal Poly Pomona Asian Pacific Faculty, Staff, and Student Association proudly announce the opportunity for Cal Poly Pomona students to apply for its 2013 APFSSA Scholarships and Service Award. Students who meet the following qualifications are encouraged to apply for the scholarships and service award.

 

  President Emeritus Bob H. and Agnes Suzuki Scholarship ($500)

1.       Open to all students presently enrolled at Cal Poly Pomona;

2.       Minimum 3.5 overall G.P.A.;

3.       Minimum 45 earned units from Cal Poly Pomona (24 CPP grad-level units for graduate students);

4.       Demonstrated contribution of service related to the Asian Pacific Islander (API) community.

  Victor Okada Scholarship ($300)

1.       Open to all students presently enrolled at Cal Poly Pomona;

2.       Minimum 3.0 overall G.P.A.;

3.       Demonstrated contribution of services related to the API community.

         Sean Yu and James Miyasaka Leadership Scholarship ($1000)

1.      Open to all students presently enrolled at Cal Poly Pomona;

2.       Minimum 3.0 overall G.P.A.;

3.       Demonstrated contribution of services related to the API community;

**Consider the level of involvement in the APISC and API Leadership Network

  Asian & Pacific Islander Student Center Service Award ($300)

1.       Open to all students presently enrolled at Cal Poly Pomona;

2.      Minimum 2.20 overall G.P.A.;

3.      Demonstrated leadership and services related to the API community through the APISC.

The selection criteria includes: (1) assessment of academic records that indicate G.P.A., honors, and awards; (2) level of involvement in extra-curricular activities to include clubs, leadership roles, community service and others related to the API community; (3) strength of the personal statement; and (4) strength of recommendation.

In addition to the STARS application, students must provide the following:

1.        1-2 page personal statement  

2.       Recommendation letter and form (to be completed by staff, faculty supervisor, etc., NOT fellow students)

RECOGNITION OF SCHOLARSHIP & AWARDS RECIPIENTS:

Students who receive an APFSSA Scholarship or Service Awards will be recognized at the Academic and Community Excellence Awards (ACE) Banquet on FRIDAY, JUNE 7, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Bronco Student Center Ursa Major Suite.  Scholarship and award recipients are expected to be present to receive awards. Family and friends are certainly invited to celebrate their accomplishments.  SAVE THE DATE!
