Training Expectations

Summary 

CAPS training program provides clinical psychology students with the opportunity to pursue university counseling center experience with a culturally diverse population.

Hours 

24-40 hours per week. Training begins in September 2009 and ends on or about June 30, 2010 depending on completion of internship hours requirement.

Diagnostic Categories 

Clients present with a broad spectrum of Axis I and II diagnoses and symptoms including anxiety, depression, eating and adjustment disorders, and relationship concerns (V codes). 

Activities 

Students will provide intake evaluations, brief solution-focused therapy (one extended long term therapy case), psychological testing and report writing, consultation, crisis intervention, interpersonal process and psycho-educational group therapy, for college age individuals, couples, and periodically, their families.  Students will also have the opportunity to be involved in outreach events and presentations to residence halls and student life organizations.  CAPS utilizes a combination of integrative counseling approaches including Cognitive Behavioral, Short-term Psychodynamic, Object Relations, Existential and Family Systems.

Special Requirements 

Students are required to attend training, staff meeting, case consultation and group supervision on Wednesdays and are expected to be on site Wednesdays at CAPS from 8:00am - 5:00pm.
