Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) |
"Training at Cal Poly was an essential building block to my development as a clinician. As an intern, I was treated as a valuable part of a collaborative team. I was allowed to grow my skills in a safe environment, while at the same time being exposed to a significant caseload composed of a vast diversity of clients from various cultural, spiritual, and economic backgrounds and sexual orientations. I was given opportunities to practice assessment, facilitate groups, participate in case consultations with other staff, and receive credit for attending outside trainings. I was able to learn from not just one supervisor, but two—each who provided me with a unique perspective by which to more effectively treat my clients and who supportively facilitated the development of my own theoretical orientation. Unlike many other training facilities, I was provided with my own office and computer, and really got a sense for what it's like to work as a professional in an agency. Other perks included getting to attend several fun campus events and CAPS Wellness Wednesday with free shoulder massages."

“Internship at CAPS is an excellent experience. The staff is supportive and helpful in tailoring training to my needs. I have been able to participate in a variety of experiences such as individual counseling, ADHD assessment, outreach to campus groups and interactions with different departments on campus. All of this has given me a comprehensive experience in working at a UCC.”
