LFSSA initiatives
LFSSA ~ La Union Mixer with the Cesar E. Chavez Center for Higher Education: La Union is an organization for all the Xicano/Latino student groups on campus. In an effort to better make connections with students who are part of La Union, LFSSA participates in a mixer each year.
Tiempos Juntos: This lunch hour event is designed to honor the diversity that makes up our Latin@ community. Our cultures are rich in ethnicities, traditions, abilities, preferences and more.
LFSSA Scholarship Reception: At this event, LFSSA awards 4-6 scholarships to students who contribute to the Latino(a) community at Cal Poly Pomona and raises additional scholarship dollars. LFSSA has been awarding the Mario Suarez scholarship for many years, and will begin to award the Nestor Ruiz and Family Graduate Scholarship this year, 2008.
Unity Luncheon: LFSSA members serve on this campus-wide luncheon committee where the beauty of the diversity at Cal Poly Pomona is highlighted and celebrated. Each year, LFSSA can nominate people to receive the “Diversity Champion” awards.
LFSSA Quarterly Meetings: LFSSA hosts quarterly general meetings where ideas are shared, members are updated, and initiatives are planned.
Professional Development Scholarship: This scholarship is designed to support the professional development of our faculty and staff.
Elections: The elections offer an opportunity for members of the Latino(a) community to take on leadership roles in the association.
