Mission Statement
The Student Development and Leadership Institute (SDLI) provides education, development and training that enhances students’ personal leadership abilities for lifelong learning and success in a changing, multicultural world.
SDLI Leadership Development Philosophy
SDLI believes that everyone is a leader, whether you are involved in an organization or not. Leadership is a process in which personal abilities can be learned and improved upon. Personal leadership development must be intentional with the forethought of becoming a critical thinker and the ability to serve a broader constituent with a meaningful purpose.
The Student Development Leadership Institute (SDLI)
Since the summer of 2003, the Student Development and Leadership Institute (SDLI) has become the umbrella for leadership networking and resources. An SDLI advisory committee representing nine different departments has fostered the growth of the program since its inception. The mission statement of SDLI has become the central purpose for defining student development at Cal Poly Pomona and serves as a tool for creating new programs. Leadership Workshop Series
Complete a series of workshops to enhance your leadership skills and receive a certificate of completion to be awarded at a special SDLI recognition reception at the end of the academic year. Benefits of participation include…

3D Leadership Conference
Join hundreds of Cal Poly Pomona students, faculty, and staff for this exciting half-day leadership conference in the fall that includes dynamic speakers, workshops, and resources to help you become a more effective leader.
Council Leadership Transition Retreat
This one-day training program offered in spring quarter prepares newly elected academic and activity based council E-Board members for their new roles and provides them with some essential skills they will need to get started in the fall. *For newly elected council officers only.
Co-Curricular Portfolio
Take advantage of this self-entry, web based tool that provides students with a personal record that tracks all of their co-curricular involvement completed while attending Cal Poly Pomona.
Leadership Resource Library
Utilize this comprehensive leadership resource library for your club or organization and for class projects. Library will be available in November 2004 at the Office of Student Life (building 26, room 124).
