The Leadership Workshop Series

The Student Development and Leadership Institute (SDLI) offers a series of leadership development workshops throughout the academic year.

The program is open to all students who wish to enhance their leadership skills.  Students who register with the program and wish to recieve a certificate of completion from the Univeristy have their entire academic carrer to complete the program.  Students earn a cerficate of completion from the University by completing 7 SDLI workshops (14 for the advanced certificate), as outlined below.  Students may decide to pursue the advanced certificate after completing the basic cerfticate.

Curriculum Overview

  • Leadership Certificate Requirements
    • Participants must complete 7 SDLI workshops.
      • 2 core workshops:
        • What is Leadership?
        • What is Your Leadership Style?
      • 5 support workshops from any of the following five areas:
        • Academic Development
        • Career Development
        • Human Relations Development
        • Organizational Development
        • Personal Development

 

  • Advanced Leadership Certificate Requirements
    • Participants must complete 14 SDLI workshops during their academic career.
      • 2 core workshops:
        • What is Leadership?
        • What is Your Leadership Style?
      • 12 support workshop options from any of the following five areas:
        • Academic Development
        • Career Development
        • Human Relations Development
        • Organizational Development
        • Personal Development

 

The program provides workshops in 5 different development areas. You can choose to participate in workshops from any of the following development areas, and it is not a requirement that you take workshops from all 5 areas:

  • Academic Development workshops provide support for students to enhance their academic success, regardless of student’s academic major and class standing.
  • Career Development workshops are aimed at participants who have an interest in exploring their career after Cal Poly Pomona or enhancing their current employment experience.
  • Human Relations Development workshops are aimed at participants who have an interest in learning more about diversity or social change
  • Organizational Development workshops are aimed at participants who have some involvement or interest in working with organizations.
  • Personal Development workshops are aimed at participants who are taking their first steps at developing their leadership skills and have not been involved.

SDLI Tracks

You can choose to follow one of the following SDLI tracks.  The tracks are designed and coordinated by an advisor who works with a specific community. Each track is aimed at developing specific skills pertaining to the needs of the community.
