What is the Cross Cultural Retreat?

Workshops, fun, diversity, dialogue, outdoors, and new friends await you at the 21st Cross Cultural Retreat!  The year's retreat will take place November 21-23, 2008. At the Cross Cultural Retreat, students, faculty and staff will experience thought provoking workshops and small group discussions about cross cultural issues while striving toward building community.  A unique program at Cal Poly Pomona, the Cross Cultural Retreat provides an opportunity for honest dialogue about issues related to diversity and how to build effective multicultural alliances across cultures.

 

This Year's Retreat Goal:

To create a safe environment that supports personal identity exploration through interactive workshops and opportunities to dialogue in large and small groups.  Participants will explore the dynamic impact on the development of one's identity in a multicultural community.   

 

Theme: Gender Nation

 

Location/Accommodations:  Alpine Meadows Retreat, Angelus Oak, CA. If any participants require specific needs such as mobility access, sign language interpreters, or other types of assistance, please call one of the co-chairs at the number below to make the proper arrangements. 

 

Payment Information:

Please see registration form for fees. All fees include lodging, 2 nights & 5 meals. Cross Cultural Retreat is open only to members of the Cal Poly Pomona community; faculty, administrators, staff, and registered students only. Students may not bring guests to the site.

No refunds on payments made.

         

Registration Process:

Cal Poly Pomona student participants must apply to attend the retreat by seeking sponsorship from an on-campus department. Please see the attached list of sponsoring departments. Deadline to submit registration form to your sponsoring department is November 7, 2008 by 5pm. The retreat is limited to 110 participants and you must attend the ENTIRE retreat. For departments that sponsor participants, contact La'Keisha Gilford-Beard at ext. 5007 for payment details.

 

Transportation/Arrival & Departure Time

Participants must travel to the site by a chartered bus that is provided. The bus leaves at 2pm on Friday, November 21st.  Program begins promptly after arrival on Friday and ends at 2pm on Sunday, November 23rd. You may not leave the retreat site at any time.
