MULTICULTURAL PROGRAMS Multicultural Council The mission of the Multi_Cultural Council of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona is to develop greater social awareness amongst it's related member organizations, students, faculty, staff, the Associated Students Incorperated (ASI), and university administrators, extending our efforts into the community. We are committed to excellence and building a greater understanding and appreciation of diversity as an essential part of the educational environment. We strive to learn from each other in an atmospher of positive engagement and mutual respect, to develop citizens with a social consciousnees, to disseminate knowledge and it's application designed to educate people, to promote social justice, to ultimately improve the human condition.
Cross Cultural Retreat This weekend retreat is held each year and is sponsored by the Office of Student Life and Cultural Centers. The goals of the retreat are to: expand awareness of multiculturalism among Cal Poly Pomona students, faculty, staff, and administrators; provide a safe and non-threatening atmosphere for sharing and exploring one another's cultural experiences; promote self-knowledge and self-worth of others; and identify strategies that would help promote multiculturalism. You may get involved by registering as a participant or serving on the planning committee.
Diversity Programs Each year, the campus has the opportunity to highlight various cultures through Cultural Months, coordinated by students through the Cultural Centers. All students are invited to help plan one of the Culture Months: October - LGBT(Lesbian,Gay,Bisexual,Transgender) History Month November - Native American Heritage Month February - Black History Month March - Womens History Month April - Asia & the pacific Islands Heritage Month May - Chicano/Latino Heritage Month
Multicultural Leadership Studies Minor The Interdisciplinary Minor in Multicultural Leadership Studies will provide students from all academic disciplines the opportunity to take a group of courses outside their specific major which would enable them to gain essential skills necessary to be effective leaders in a multicultural world. The course work will focus on three major areas of multicultural leadership including leadership, multicultural education and communication.
