Club / Council Resource Manual
This Club/Council Resource Manual is designed to inform you of the many services, resources, and opportunities available for you at Cal Poly Pomona. This valuable resource is provided to you by Office of Student Life and Cultural Centers with Student Development Leadership Institute.
If you are just starting to get involved on campus, this resource manual is designed to help you make the best decisions about your involvement on campus. For example, how do you decide which group is right for you and how can involvement help you become a better leader? This resource manual also offers you information about Cultural Groups, Greek Life, Student Government/Associated Students, Inc. and has information about how to start a new club on campus!
If you are a new or continuing leader on campus, you know that you have an incredible array of opportunities at Cal Poly Pomona to assist you in exploring what it means to be a leader in today’s society. This resource manual has been prepared for you in hopes that it will assist your transition into club and organizational leadership on campus. You are encouraged to become familiar with this resource and keep it for reference throughout the year. There are tip sheets for you to help you break the ice with new members, run effective meetings, make decisions, manage your time, plan excellent programs, and motivate students to attend your programs. You can also learn about how to manage your money with the ASI Business Office, how to raise money by participating in our vendor program, applying for funding from the administrative fund, or hosting a food sale. We also offer you information about procedures and policies that are important to clubs and organizations: Where do you get your mail? How can you paint the CPP on the hill? How do you publicize your events on campus?
For ALL students, this resource manual contains information about the Student Development and Leadership Institute (SDLI). The institute includes a FREE leadership workshop series, the Council Transition Retreat, the Co-curricular Portfolio, and the 3-D Leadership Conference. Additional resources and information that may be useful can also be found in our Leadership Library in the Office of Student Life and Cultural Centers, University Plaza, Building 26, Room 124.
Leadership is about searching your inner being to find that which moves you, that which brings a sense of purpose and meaning and that which motivates you to stay engaged in something that you deeply believe in. It’s about finding your voice and indeed giving voice to what really matters in your life. We look forward to helping you find your passion and using that energy to take on a leadership role on campus, in the surrounding community, and ultimately in society!
Sincerely,
John C. Hernandez, Ph.D.
