Housing Green Initiatives

The University Housing Services (UHS) Green Commitment:

  • To support Cal Poly Pomona’s Climate Commitment
  • Promote sustainable practices in the residential communities and within the UHS department
  • Build awareness among residents and staff through the development, creation and implementation of educational programs for residents and staff
  • To partner with the campus community in achieving these goals

What is UHS doing?

  • Modifying Purchasing Practices
    • Purchasing products with recycled content or are recyclable
  • Reduction in paper consumption
    • Two-sided copying
    • Use of discarded, one-sided copies for drafts
    • Sharing electronic documents
  • Marketing activities
    • Use of web and electronic media (reducing print)
    • Resident room showroom with sustainable products
  • Business Processes
    • Online contracting
    • Online forms
  • Participates in recycling
  • Partnering with the John T. Lyles Center for Regenerative Studies to assess the carbon footprint of a resident hall room
